SHNU: The opening ceremony of the 2011 International Art Festival of SHNU was held on April 21. SHNU authorities including Li Jin, Lu Jianfei and Cong Yuhao were present. Officials from Consulate General of the Republic of France in Shanghai were invited to the opening ceremony. Also present were relevant people from SHNU Colleges and departments, reporters from news media, and SHNU students, including international students. ![]() SHNU Vice President Lu Jianfei delivered an opening speech to introduce the festival and wish the event a complete success. After that, SHNU President Li Jin announced the opening of the art festival. He also gave a special gift to the officials from the French Consulate on behalf of the university.
Following the announcement was a grand auditory and visual banquet staged by Lions of Puxi, a band composed of members from China, France and Mauritius, and JAMMALA, a traditional percussion band from West Africa. The performers demonstrated consummate professional skills and interacted with the audiences from time to time. Excited by the fantastic performances, the audiences clapped their hands in rhythm to respond. SHNU International Arts Festival is held every two years, and this is the fourth time the festival has started its trip. Under the theme of “Integration of Multi-Cultures & Exhibition of Distinctive Arts”, great efforts have been made to develop the international cultural and educational exchange programs. Such an activity not only helps to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between SHNU and the overseas partner universities, but can also boost mutual understanding of cultural and artistic development in different countries. Since its establishment in 2005, SHNU International Arts Festival has made more than 80 groups of artists from home and abroad put on 100 brilliant performances such as choral, Jazz, symphony, chamber and wind concerts, piano recital, dancing, flowering arranging, gallery of children’s paintings. Participants from overseas include drama and dancing troupes from France, musicians, singers and choir from Japan, song and dance troupe from the United States, pianist from Ukraine, as well as Blue Quintetto from Italy. Art groups of our university such as Wan Fang Youth Symphony Orchestra, Dancing Troupe and Senior Citizen’s Choir, together with students and faculty from Music College and Xie Jin Film & TV Art College, joined in the performances as well. |
