SHNU Teacher Discovers Mesozoic Beetle Fossils

SHNU:On March 7th, Ziwei Yin, Doctor’s Degree candidate and first author of the scientific paper, published on British Academic Journal Scientific Reports Specialized adaptations for springtail predation in Mesozoic beetles. He co-authored with Lizhen Li, SHNU professor, Dr. Chenyang Cai, and Yindi Huang, staffs of China Academy of Sciences.
                                                                                                               
As insects would often develop certain features related to their behavior, the explanations of these specialized beetles could help reveal some of their secrets. With this discovery, the author of the article established a new species: Cascomastigus monstrabilis.
 
The research is funded by China National Foundation of Natural Sciences, Shanghai Committee of Science and Technology, Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province and Strategic Pioneer Programs of China Academy of Sciences.
