On May 24th, 2025, the 3rd Dragon Boat Race for Yangtze River Delta University Foreign Students was successfully held in Tonghai Lake, Fengxian Campus of East China University of Science and Technology, involving 792 athletes from 33 universities from Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Anhui Provinces to compete. The spectacular scene attracted thousands of spectators to gather by the Tonghai Lake to witness this exciting scenes.
The SHNU Dragon Boat Team scored 51.41 seconds in the preliminary contest, winning the first place with an absolute advantage of 2.1 seconds ahead of the runner-up team, breaking the highest record of the tournament in nearly three years, and winning the championship with a brilliant performance of 53.69 seconds in the final, becoming the biggest winner of the tournament. The SHNU team is composed of 25 international students candidates from 13 countries, including Turkmenistan, Indonesia, Russia, France and Uzbekistan. The postgraduate students of the Veterans College of SHNU serve as their coaches. Through more than two months of hard training, it defeated the traditional strong team and scored a new high in the racing history.
During the competition, Vice SHNU President Jiang Mingjun visited the training site twice to provide guidance, cheering and encouraging the team members to experience Chinese culture in the traditional Dragon Boat Festival and gain friendship in competitive sports.
This competition is jointly organized by the China Scholarship Council, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, and the International Student Education Working Committee of the Shanghai Education International Exchange Association. It is hosted by East China University of Science and Technology and has been held for 15 times since its launch in 2008. It has gradually developed into an important platform for showcasing excellent traditional Chinese culture and the youthful styles of international students.
