Recently, the 13th National College Students' GIS Application Skills Competition was successfully held at Lanzhou Jiaotong University in China’s western Gansu Province. Four students from the SHNU School of Environmental and Geographic Sciences represented Shanghai Normal University (SHNU) and won the second prize in the competition.
The National College Students' GIS Application Skills Competition is hosted by the China Geographic Information Industry Association and the Chinese Geographical Society. It is jointly organized by the Working Education Committee of the China Geographic Information Industry Association, the School of Surveying and Geographic Information of Lanzhou Jiaotong University, the National Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Geographic Monitoring Technology Application, the Gansu Provincial Key Laboratory of Surveying and Mapping Science and Technology, and the Journal of Geovisualization and Spatial Analysis. This competition aims to promote the learning enthusiasm and initiative of GIS students, promote the cultivation of high-level GIS applied talents, and enhance students’ employment competitiveness. The competition adopts a mixed online and offline approach, attracting a team of 712 students and 325 guidance teachers from 179 universities across the country. The competition comprehensively assesses the abilities of collecting, editing, integrating and processing spatial data, mapping and expression, spatial analysis and modeling, etc.
