SHNU Sponsors Cultural Experience of Gu Xiu's Embroidery Charm

On June 23rd, the intangible cultural heritage research and learning experience activity of the theme park project of Shanghai Normal University (SHNU) was held at the Guilin Park in Shanghai. Fu Yongping, a specially appointed lecturer at the Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture (Gu Embroidery) Inheritance Base Affiliated to Ministry of Education and a representative inheritor of the national intangible cultural heritage project Gu Embroidery at the Shanghai municipal level, as well as teachers and students from the SHNU College of Film, Television and Comunication, led a program of experiencing the beauty of Gu Embroidery.

At the event, Fu Yongping, who has been engaged in Gu embroidery for over 40 years, demonstrated and introduced its historical origins and craftsmanship of intangible cultural heritage. She stated that Gu embroidery, as a technique that combines embroidery and painting, used embroidery instead of painting. The family participants listened to the storytelling and appreciated the masters showcasing the embroidery techniques of as fine as hair, as fine as a needle, and as beautiful as a painting.

After the demonstration and explanation, the audiences experienced stretching, cutting threads, threading needles, and learned to embroider basic patterns, while experiencing the delicacy of Gu embroidery.
