On the morning of June 12th, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Mathematics and Science Education Curriculum Leadership Exchange Team held a symposium with STEAM education experts from SHNU at the lecture hall of the SHNU conference center. The Deputy Director of the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Regio, Chief Assistant Secretary General, Deputy Director of the Education and Technology Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Vice President of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Chairman of the Hong Kong Curriculum Development Council and other Hong Kong education professionals had in-depth exchanges with STEAM education experts such as Zhang Minxuan, Director of the UNESCO Teacher Education Center, and Hu Zhen, Dean of the School of Architecture and Engineering at SHNU.
Zhang Minxuan gave in-depth explanations on the theme of this exchange from three aspects: what is STEM education, why STEM education should be carried out, and how to carry it out. He highlighted the significance and importance of STEM education from an international and diverse perspective.
Subsequently, experts in the STEAM education field at Shanghai Normal University introduced the development of mathematics, science, and engineering education in sequence. During the questioning session, experts and scholars from both regions held lively discussions and exchanges on how to better carry out foreign language teaching in the STEAM field, interdisciplinary integration teaching in engineering education, and the flexible application of mathematics in science education.
It is hoped that more opportunities of exchanges and cooperation would be implemented in STEAM education between Shanghai and Hong Kong.
