On May 25th, 2024, the 14th Shanghai International Students’ Dragon Boat Competition and the 2nd Yangtze River Delta International Student Dragon Boat Invitational were held on the Fengxian Campus of East China University of Science and Technology. Our international student dragon boat team fought against the waves and finally achieved the sixth place with a new historical record of 58.45 seconds.
The international student dragon boat team of the school is composed of 24 athletes from Indonesia, France, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Fiji, Bolivia, South Korea and other countries. In the early stage, volunteer students from the Veterans College were specially invited to lead the team and participate in training. The candidates were from 25 universities in Shanghai, including Fudan University, Nanjing University of Technology, Zhejiang University, and University of Science and Technology of China, and 9 universities in the Yangtze River Delta region.
Grasp the oar and strike the current, turning the boat into a dragon. Under the uniform slogan, the athletes worked together and started paddling, each dragon boat chopping waves and pushing forward. The riverbank is bustling with people in a lively atmosphere, with shouts and cheers echoing in the air. After intense competition, the international student dragon boat team of East China Normal University ultimately won the top, with Shanghai Maritime University and Nanjing University of Technology winning the second and third place respectively.
This competition is hosted by the China Scholarship Council, the Shanghai Education Commission, and the International Student Education Research Committee of the Shanghai Education International Exchange Association, and hosted by East China University of Science and Technology. This dragon boat race aims to inherit and promote traditional Chinese culture, showcase the charm of dragon boat sports, and enhance understanding and exchange among international students in Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta region.
