On April 20th, the theme project of Shanghai Normal University Park, Garden Elegance (Kunqu Opera Distinction opera art appreciation experience) and Creating Water Circulation in the Bags Workshop, were held in Guilin Park and Kangjian Park respectively. The two activities, with the theme Culture can be Perceptible, attracted SHNU teachers and students, and neighbouring citizens participate in the interactions.
On invitation of SHNU, the Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe performed at Guilin Park. The young actors integrated the beautiful tunes of Kunqu opera into the ancient Southern China gardens, bringing the audience an immersive experience of excellent traditional Chinese culture. In the experience section, the on-site audience also interacted with young actors to further understand Kunqu knowledge, learn about opera gestures, imitate classic-singing styles, and personally experience the charm of Kunqu art.
When the classic Kunqu opera excerpt Jade Hairpin: Qin Tiao was sung, the audience couldn't help but applaud for the graceful and melodious lyrics, Moonlight, clouds are light, dew is thick, and the pillow is sorrowful, listening to the sound of the four walls.. An audience member responded, This event is very interesting. Not only did I have a deeper understanding of Kunqu, but I also fell in love with the excellent traditional Chinese culture. After communicating and interacting with the actors, many college students expressed that they deeply felt the unique charm of Kunqu for the first time and recognized the importance of inheriting and promoting the excellent traditional Chinese culture.
In the afternoon, the ecological practice activity of Water in the Bottle - Creating a Water Cycle in the Bag was held. It promoted participants’ basic knowledge of water cycle, water quality analysis and testing practices through building and producing aquatic ecological bottles. This helped children cultivate an awareness of green and low-carbon living, and protect the Earth's environment.
