On the morning of March 28th, Professor Jonathan Korth, the Director of the Piano Department at the University of Hawaii School of Music, was invited to hold a Piano Master Class at the Small Concert Hall of SHNU School of Music. This master class is hosted by Associate Professor Tan Tianjia, the Director of the Piano Department of SHNU School of Music and Zhao Kailei, a graduate student majoring in piano performance. Several teachers from the piano department, graduate students majoring in piano performance and music education jointly participated in this piano master class.
Professor Korth first expressed his excitement to all the teachers and students who participated in the master class for coming back to our school's Conservatory of Music to hold the master class. The students in this piano master class are graduate students majoring in piano performance from different grades. After carefully listening to the performance of the students, he specifically and sensitively pointed out the problems that students encountered during the performance process. With his own playing experience and theoretical knowledge, he combined witty and humorous language lectures with demonstration performances to help students solve the problems or improve their performance skills.
Korth carefully and patiently used a simple and profound method to deeply feel the connotation of Chopin's third narrative, making the performance more expressive and the styles more distinct. In addition, for areas with difficult skills, Professor Korth also provided specific practice methods and personally demonstrated them, which was a highly- rewarding master lesson.
Professor Jonathan Korth not only excels in his skills, but is also deeply impressed by his amicability and patience. His every instruction is very meticulous and precise, which has given students a different understanding and insight into the key touching and force-exerting methods, and thus delivered a deeper appreciation for the endless charm of the piano.
Professor Jonathan Korth's teaching style is rigorous but humorous, and the atmosphere of the entire master class is relaxed and lively. The smooth implementation of this master class has provided students with learning opportunities, improved their professional literacy and comprehensive abilities.
