On the afternoon of March 13th, the Short Video Research and Production Center of Shanghai Normal University (SHNU) was officially founded at Film-Television and Communication College of SHNU. Its commencement marks a new stage in the research and production activities of the school in the field of short videos production. This move not only responds to the requirements of the national cultural development strategy, but also conforms to the trend of media integration development.
Short videos have become a new trend for integrating broadcasting and television media in recent years, therefore marking one of the strongest force for Chinese media to be globalized. The center will carry out further research on various topics, such as various means to the cross-cultural communication and influences of short videos, media socialization, cultural globalization and short video production, and comparisons of short video production between China and foreign countries.
Based on the Short Video Research and Production Center, the College will continue to carry out teaching, research, and academic exchange activities. The current plan includes multiple activities such as international student workshops, short video creation, and international academic forums on cross-cultural communication. The International Student Workshop will invite students from different countries to participate in the creation and exchange of short videos, and promote cross-cultural exchanges through cross-border cooperation. In 2024, the workshop successfully initiated cooperation between SHNU and two counterparts, respectively in the UK and the US. During May, SHNU collaborated with students from John Moore University in Liverpool, UK to complete 4-5 microfilms featuring the Charming Shanghai series; In August or October, the SHNU students will visit the New York Film Academy in the United States to exchange learning experiences in film creation.
The International Academic Forum on Short Video Creation and Cross cultural Communication will invite renowned experts from both domestic and international sources to engage in in-depth discussions on topics, arrange sessions to showcase videos or works co-produced by international students.
The newly-built center shall not only provide a platform for our teachers and students to showcase their talents and exchange ideas, but also inject new vitality into research and production in the field of short videos.
