Recently, the Ministry of Emergency Management of the People's Republic of China released the “Decision on Awarding and Honoring Advanced Collectives and Individuals in the First Comprehensive Risk Survey of Natural Disasters in China” which recognized SHNU School of Environmental and Geographical Sciences as an “Advanced Collective” in the First National Comprehensive Risk Survey of Natural Disaster. Among the 13 institutions honored as “Advanced Collectives” in Shanghai, our University is the only winner in all universities in Shanghai.
Since 2021, teachers and students from the SHNU School of Environmental and Geographical Sciences have conducted over 20 technical training sessions for public service facilities, historical disasters, overall plans, key hazard assessments and regionalization, as well as comprehensive risk assessment and regionalization at either municipal or district levels.
The teachers of the School of Environmental and Geographical Sciences have also been guests on programs, such as Shanghai News Radio (FM 91.4 frequency)'s Direct 990 program, CCTV12, and other news media to publicize and introduce the situation of the first comprehensive natural disaster risk survey in Shanghai to the general public. Based on the survey results, they have also participated in programs such as China Radio and “Xinmin Weekly” to provide comprehensive scientific education on disaster prevention, mitigation, and relief. In addition, the school actively participates in post-disaster investigation and evaluation work for major natural disasters in China, and is committed to serving the national comprehensive disaster prevention, mitigation, and relief cause.
