On January 31st, Key Special Project Artificial Design and Creation of C3 Crop Efficient Carbon Fixation Module ( one of the National Key Research and Development Program Synthetic Biology) led by Professor Ma Weimin from SHNU held a conference on project initiation and plan implementation.
As the leading unit of this project, the school will effectively implement the responsibilities of the legal entity and make every effort to ensure the smooth implementation of the project.
Subsequently, four project leaders, Professor Ma Weimin (top left in the figure below), Researcher Zhao Longsheng (top right in the figure below), Professor Huang Jirong (bottom left in the figure below), and Professor Hu Zhubing (bottom right in the figure below), respectively reported on the expected goals, implementation plans, and work foundation of each project. The feasibility of the expected goals and implementation plans of the project were also probed at the conference.
By utilizing synthetic biology methods, the carbon dioxide concentration mechanism of algae is introduced into C3 crops to create algae crops, which is expected to break through the bottleneck problem of increasing the yield of C3 crops, serve the strategic needs of China's food security, and promote the theoretical innovation and technological development of national C3 crop synthetic biology.
