Sponsored by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, the 2023 Shanghai Basketball League for University Students was held at Shanghai University (Baoshan Campus) on December 24th. The SHNU Women’s Basketball Team, consisting of 15 players from various colleges, won the championship of the Shanghai University Basketball League for the first time. Under the guidance of Coach Gao and Assistant Coach Zhu from the School of Physical Education they defeated Shanghai Sports University with a score of 70:58 to claim the championship in Group A. This is the first championship our women's basketball team has achieved since the 1960s.
Altogether 32 teams entered for the women’s games in eight groups. The SHNU Women’s Basketball Team out-rivaled Lida University and Shanghai Second Polytechnic University to be qualified for the semi-final. In the semifinals, they faced Shanghai University on their home court and despite being behind at halftime, the coaches made timely adjustments to strategies and tactics. They players fought back against adversity and turned the game around. Our team’s players worked together and ultimately won the championship with a score of 70:58 against Shanghai University in the final. They showed great teamwork and determination throughout the game. It was a well-deserved victory for our women's basketball team.
