On November 25th, Shanghai Normal University (SHNU) sponsored a series of activities involving participants to have fun while gaining scientific knowledge at a local park called Kang Jian Yuan. Three programs were designed for children to develop their athletic hobbies and promote their interests in scientific exploration, as well as enrich local citizens’ social life.
The large park lawns were ambient with the smiling faces of crowds, accompanied with their joyful conversations, on this sunny and warm weekend during the early winter of the year. These children collaborated for Frisbee challenges and archery fights, and some younger ones were found in the fun of Pitch-Pot and inflatable Tetris puzzle. Some balls fan threw themselves into the events of rugby, bowling and soccer. These children photographed with happiness by wearing their sports medals won at these athletic programs.
An assistant professor from SHNU School of Life Science and a senior engineer from Shanghai Zoo showed these young visitors some commonly-found butterflies before they started producing insect specimens, watching over the birds, establishing the models of sponge cities, popularized the ecological know-how on ornithology and wetlands system.
A series of such activities have been or will be held by embodying sports and park communities. It is noted that 19 such programs were held to attract over 2, 000 visitors to be involved.
