On occasion of the Double 9th Festival (traditional Chinese festival for the elderly people), a cooperative arts show by SHNU and Xuhui District Afforestation and Urban Landscaping Management Bureau was staged at Guilin Park which has always been known for its unique sweet-scented osmanthus. In the air of classic southern Chinese gardens, three different activities were presented to promote Chinese traditional culture in such forms as static and dynamic displays, activated and immersive experience.
The actors from Shanghai Peking Opera Troupe were invited to sing Selling Water at Guilin Park. Also, the audiences were invited to be dressed in drama costumes and start their role-playing.
The Gu Embroidery experience activity involved a heritage expert to review its history over the past 400 years while briefing on its features and stories. The audiences were also invited to try their hands in weaving stitch-work by employing Gu Embroidery.
After that, performances of south China bamboo, southern folk songs, minority group’s dances were fused to bring to the audiences a world of not only glamorous southern China garden landscapes decorated with long bridges, corridors, pavilions and waterside terraces, but also a haven of melodious rhythms, tender and gentle southern ditties and elegant dancing postures.
The non-heritage inheritance programs bring forward an opportunity for the citizens to embrace park culture and campus culture, merge higher education into urban journey of cultures.
