Sponsored by China Contemporary Women’s Literature Research Association, the 16th Symposium on Chinese Women’s Literature was held at Shanghai on June 24th and 25th . It involved more than 80 experts and scholars from about 40 universities and research institutes to probe Women’s Literature and Transformations on Chinese Society over Hundreds of Years.
The SHNU Vice President Chen Heng was quoted as saying that women’s literature serves as a paramount means to perceive Chinese social changes over the past centuries. Shanghai, as a unique city of cultural integration, provides sufficient space for creating and studying women’s culture.
Four aspects have been discussed: enlightenment, revolutions and female images construction, gender politics and Chinese contemporary society transformations, media, and gender imagination, and new changes in women’s literature in the 21st century.
