Professor from Tokyo University Talks about Japanization of Buddhism at Overseas Scholars’ Forum

        On November 21, Sueki Humihiko, professor from Japan’s Tokyo University, was invited to make an academic speech entitled The Commandment thoughts of Saichyo----The founding of Tendai School and Japanization of Buddhism at SHNU Xuesihu Lake Overseas Scholars Forum. The speech pivots on how Tendai School evolves into Japanese Buddhism in certain historic background, and the status and roles Saichyo played during the time after Buddhism was introduced into Japan.
         Also present were Lu Jianfei, vice president of SHNU, Xu Wenkan, copy editor of Lexicography Department of the Chinese Dictionary, Yao Changshou, vice managing dean of China’s Buddhist College, Zhang Weiran, professor of Fudan University, Tang Zhongmao, assistant professor of East China Normal University, Shen Haiyan, assistant professor of Shanghai University, masters from Shanghai Buddhist College and Shanghai Ancient Temple of Longhua, and dozens of teachers and students from the College of Politics and Laws and the College of Language and Arts of SHNU. Heated air reigned supreme throughout the academic discussion.
        Moreover, Sueki compared notes with SHNU teachers and students majoring in religion in the seminar, in respect of the current study of Chinese and Japanese religions in Japan.
