Professor from Tokyo Gakugei University Talks about Japanese Kanji and Chinese Characters

SHNU, Sept. 24:  Xuesihu (literally Learning-and-thinking Lake) Master’s Forum witnesses an inspiring lecture by Prof. Eiji Matsuoka from Tokyo Gakugei University.

    The topic of the lecture is “Japanese Kanji vs. Chinese Characters”. With fluent Chinese, Prof. Matsuoka fully demonstrated the charm of the Chinese characters. He also pointed out some problems in the use of Chinese characters and Japanese Kanji and gave his own advice as to how to solve these problems. Later that day, Mr. Matsuoka was awarded the title of Visiting Professor of our university. Vice President Lu Jianfei, leaders from International Exchange Division and College of Humanities and Communication were present at the awarding ceremony.

    Graduated from Tokyo Gakugei University, Prof. Matsuoka has made great achievements in academic research, first in ancient Chinese literature and later in the teaching of Chinese language. His has contributed greatly to preserving Chinese characters and promoting Chinese culture. Presently, he is an academic commissioner of the International Standardization Organization, chief professor of Research Center of Japanese Studies in Beijing and visiting professor of Beijing Normal University.
