September 20th witnessed the school commencement ceremony for over 1,000 new postgraduate students in the west sports gym on Xuhui Campus. Seated on the rostrum were university President and Chairman of SHNU Academic Degrees Evaluation Committee (ADEC) Li Jin, Vice President and Vice Chairman of SHNU ADAC Lu Jianfei as well as other administrators of the university and some colleges. Vice President Li Hexing presided over the ceremony.
President Li Jin delivered a speech to extend welcome to all the newcomers on behalf of the university. He urged them to keep in mind the school motto and cultivate a strong sense of social responsibility so as to commit themselves to social development; to build confident mind for exploration, rigorous scientific attitude and cooperative team spirit; to learn to appreciate others so as to promote harmonious development; and to set high moral standards for themselves and make great achievement in their professional studies. Mr. Li required new graduate students to make concerted efforts and press on to improve the status of our university in its professional quality. Professor Sun Xun expressed his wishes to these novices on behalf of all the doctoral advisors. He encourages them to foster lofty ideals, adhere to academic stance and pursuit, and in this way advance in big strides towards qualified talents. Representatives of veterans and tenderfoots took the floor to speak at the ceremony. In the ensuing orientation program, authorities of SHNU Security Department and Postgraduates Department acquainted the students with campus safety regulations, school roll management, and ideological and political management. Altogether 1,067 MA/MS candidates and 84 PhD candidates attended the commencement ceremony and the orientation program. |
