31 Heroes from Dujiangyan Visits SHNU

SHNU: On Sept. 6, 31 representatives of teachers and students from Dujiangyan, one of the cities that were seriously affected by the Wenchuan Earthquake, paid a visit to SHNU and would join SHNU in celebrating the Teachers’ Day on Sept. 10th.

    The welcome banquet, with the theme of “emblazing hope with love and paving the way for the future through education”, was held in the foreign Guests House of SHNU. Officials from Shanghai Municipal Government, Shanghai Education Commission, representatives from Dujiangyan, and SHNU leaders including Li Jin and Huang Gang attended the banquet. The banquet was hosted by SHNU Vice Party Secretary Jiang Weiyi.

    Xue Mingyang, Director of Shanghai Education Commission, expressed a most warm welcome to the visitors and gave the festival wishes to them on behalf of 1.6 million elementary and middle school students in Shanghai. SHNU President Li Jin also spoke to highlight the significance of the visit.

    Liu Jiaqiang, Vice Dean of Education Bureau of Dujiangyan, expressed heartfelt thanks to Shanghai Municipal Government, Shanghai Education Commission, SHNU, as well as Shanghai people. He said the teachers and students of Dujiangyan would work in unity in an effort to rebuild their schools.

    The banquet went on in a joyous atmosphere. SHNU presented wonderful dances to the guests and the performance was answered by applause and flowers from the audience.

    The delegation from Dujiangyan consisted of 31 members, including some well-known figures throughout the country. During the 6-day stay, they would make speeches and take part in a series of activities in honor of the Teachers’ Day.

    To make up, a report meeting was held on Sept. 7, in which some of the representatives shared their experience as well as thoughts with 5,000 odd freshmen on Fengxian Campus, which was well-received and moved all those who were present. On Sept. 8, three student representatives of the delegation came to the BBS of Xuesihu Lake and communicated with SHNU students through the broadcasting station of the internet.
