SHNU: On July 11, a ceremony was held in SHNU in honor of Shanghai university students who would start their social practice in the summer vacation. Some of them would go to the western area of the country. Yin Yicui, deputy Party secretary of Shanghai Municipal Committee, came to SHNU and conferred the banner on the student volunteers. Officials from Shanghai Municipal government and representatives of university leaders of Shanghai spoke at the ceremony. All volunteers present swore to contribute their lot to serving the west and quake-hit areas. This year, over 100,000 university students in Shanghai would take part in 5,000 summer vacation social practice programs. SHNU organized 53 programs belonging to 5 serials of social practice which involved 7,874 students; in addition, 179 charity schools participated by 5,243 SHNU students were established both at home and abroad to disseminate Chinese culture.
