April 8th, traditionally March 3rd on the lunar calendar, is the Festival of Girls. Jiang Weiyi, vice president of SHNU, declared the opening of 2008 Display of Outstanding Works of Creativity.
Various works of environmental protection, paper crafts, and knitwear have been on show, which have appealed to everybody on the scene. There were also handmade cross-stitch works and sweaters hanging on the wall. Most of these were completed by students during the classes of life science and aesthetics, in the aim of spotting more sparkles of beauty for better creations. The SHNU Festival of Girls has developed into Shanghai Oriental Festival of Girls, based on the support of Shanghai Women Federation, Shanghai Cultural Foundation, and Shanghai Education Foundation, and shall be initiated from April 18th.
