SHNU: The fist overseas Confucius Institute of our university was officially launched in Fukuyama University of Japan on April 4. Luo Tianguang, the consul-general of the People’s Republic of China in Osaka, spoke at the ceremony and unveiled the plaque to open the institute on behalf of the Office of Chinese Language Council International. Li Junxiu, vice director of Shanghai Education Commission, SHNU President Li Jin, vice president Lu Jianfei and other 100 odd representatives on both sides attended the ceremony.

Li spoke at the ceremony and gave over 400 books written by teachers of our university and other gifts to the newly established Confucius Institute. Lu delivered a speech in which he introduced our plan of making a sculpture of Confucius and interpreted the essence of Confucius thoughts and tenor of running the Confucius Institute. Folk Music Orchestra formed by teachers and students of the Musical College of our university played at the ceremony, and their joint performance with the Japanese students in playing the Japanese song Sakura pushed the atmosphere to a climax.

It is also reported that the Confucius Institute of Fukuyama will invite a teacher of the College of Fine Arts of our university to deliver the first lecture on the Chinese culture — a special lecture about Chinese Calligraphy at the end of April.
