SHNU: The Third Confucius Institute Conference with the theme of Confucius Institute and Global Education was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing from December 9 to 11. SHNU Vice President Lu Jianfei and Hua Hua, Chinese Dean of the Confucius Institute in University of Botswana, attended the conference. State Councilor Liu Yandong addressed the opening ceremony. Zhouji, Minister of the Ministry of Education, made a work report about the Confucius Institute. He also watched the pictures of the Confucius Institute cooperatively run by SHNU and Fukuyama University. 249 presidents of universities and representatives of Confucius Institutes from 78 countries gathered for the three-day conference. Participants discussed issues such as the spreading of Chinese language, global multicultural development and the contribution Confucius Institutes have made to local universities and communities, etc. Following the opening of the two Confucius Institutes in Fukuyama and Botswana, SHNU succeeds in its negotiation with Kent State University in establishing its third Confucius Institute.
